The ways people are connected, who they are connected to, and how many people are between any connections in a network influences how efficient, nimble and adaptive it is. This shape of the network or network topography also molds the way the network performs. All networks are organized along a fluid spectrum of very centralized to very decentralized connections among the people involved

Centralized Networks

A centralized network gives a small number of centrally connected people the power to change the structure of the network, make decisions and distribute value. These central people exert major influence over network behavior, the performance of the network, and how quickly the network aligns. When networks are highly centralized, they can make decisions quickly, but they risk collapse if central people move on or lose influence.
